Leaving hospital after surgery can feel both like a relief and a source of anxiety. You are glad to be home, but uncertain about what is normal, what to watch for, and what to do if something does not feel right. This guide answers those questions clearly.

The first 48 hours at home

The first two days after discharge are the most critical. Your body is still in the acute recovery phase, pain medication needs to be managed carefully, and the surgical wound requires proper monitoring.

Pain management

Take your prescribed pain medication as directed, even if you feel better than expected. Pain that is allowed to build is harder to control, and uncontrolled pain slows recovery. Contact CareEdge immediately if your pain is not controlled, or if it suddenly worsens after improvement — this can be a sign of a complication.

Wound care

Your surgical wound must be kept clean and dry. The dressing should be changed by a professional — not at home by a family member unless specifically instructed. At CareEdge, our nurses dress and monitor your wound on every visit using clinical-grade materials.

Red flags that need immediate attention

If in doubt, contact CareEdge. A quick WhatsApp message describing what you are seeing is enough for us to advise whether you need urgent attention.

How CareEdge supports post-surgical patients

For post-surgical patients, CareEdge provides a structured home management programme — proper wound care, medication reviews, nutrition support, and doctor oversight of every visit. Family members receive a WhatsApp update after every visit so they always know what is happening.
